Founder of Time to Teach

Time to teach was created during one drunken night in 1999. My friend was convinced he could make a killing in the dot com market by buying up lots of names which could then be sold for a huge profit. Of course he could not use his own name, so he used mine instead. One of the names he thought of was 'Time to Teach' - which was how the site got its name.

A few weeks later, we were on a ferry trip to France - no doubt on an 8-hour crossing more beer was drunk - and we talked about life as a teacher an how silly it was that every time I wanted to teach something, I needed to create it first - surely there was a better way...

So Time to Teach developed its content - it was originally just thing's I had created in my own classtoom, such as Maths PowerPoint presentations - these were considered really advanced in 1999 - before Flash etc and interactive whiteboards were common. My class was one of the first to get a digital projector, and I still use it occasionally today.

Time to teach then grew and became a really exciting place to visit. However over time, as often happened, it was overtaken by other flashier sites, with people who could devote all their time to creating an educational website and I tried to think of how to make Time to Teach really useful again.

I then decided the only real way was to pretty much dismantle the site, and rebuild it, taking all the best parts and adding lots of new, highly interactive ways to communicating with my audience and hence Time to Teach has gained a new shape and hopefully it will now develop in new and exciting ways!

If you have any comments about the site or suggestions on ways I can take it forward, please let me know and I will try to follow the best ideas.
